Firefox fixes nine bugs CNET news dot com is reporting that Mozilla has patched nine vulnerabilities in the latest update of its Firefox browser. Most notable of the fixes is for the flaw reported in Episode fourteen of our show concerning bad URLs passed from IE. Mozilla says, "this fix only prevents Firefox ... from accepting bad data ... this patch does not fix the vulnerability in Internet Explorer." Comcast wants IE and nothing else Slashdot is reporting that Comcast, the largest ISP in America, requires Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher on the Windows operating system for its installation procedure. With 13 million subscribers, there are bound to be some Firefox users and some people on Macs which haven't shipped with a version of IE since the year 2000. Download free chapters of Java SE 6 book Javalobby dot org reports that you can download two chapters of Murach's Java SE 6 book for free. The book claims to be aimed at both the novice and the experienced Java programmer. Chapter one gets you started with Java and by the end of the second chapter you'll be writing complete Java programs. Visual Studio 2008 to support nested Master Pages John Allen at InfoQ dot com is reporting that Visual Studio 2008 will support nested Master Pages. Master Pages are ASP.NET 2.0's templating system allowing for a consistent look across a site. Visual Studio 2005, the current version of the IDE does not allow for the nesting of Master Pages. However this isn't a limitation of the .NET platform. In fact, ASP.NET 2.0 does support nesting, and so the weakness lies with Visual Studio, which the 2008 version seeks to remedy. SWX Screencast Have you heard of SWX? It's spelled S W X. "It stands for SWF Data Exchange Format. It’s a new way of working with data in Flash that uses simple SWF files to exchange data." Aral Balkan, founder of the format, has put together a screencast showing how to download and install the SWX MAMP bundle. The bundle, which is for the Mac, contains an Apache server, PHP, MySQL and SWX. The screencast is intended to get you up and running with SWX in about twenty minutes. Kevin Cheng's IA Summit 2007 Presentation And finally, Ashley McKee talks about Kevin Cheng's IA Summit 2007 presentation on the UIE dot com Brain Sparks blog today. She says that the talk, titled Finding Innovation in the Five-Hundred Pound Gorrilla, "centers largely around an innovative approach to product design based on a case study of one of Yahoo!’s 'vision projects.'"
