Firefox co-founders sell startup to Facebook TechCruch reports that the popular social networking site Facebook has made its first acquisition, a startup named Parakey co-founded by Firebug creator Joe Hewitt. According to the report, the purchase was motivated by Parakey's work on a yet-to-be-released web based operating system. Though that may not be web development news in and of itself, Jonathan Snook points out that Joe Hewitt's work on the popular Firefox web development add-on Firebug was slated to receive support by none other than Yahoo! in the form of a full time engineer working on advancing it. Snook asks, with FaceBook's purchase of Parakey, how does that impact Firebug? Eric Meyer Workshop in London Eric Meyer, author of the seminal O'Reilly book CSS:The Definitive Guide will be giving a two-day CSS workshop in London, England this coming August thirteen and fourteen. Seating for the Carson Workshops event is already half sold so if you would like to attend, grab some tickets now. As an added bonus, Meyer promises not to wear his trademark blue-shirt-with-tan-slacks combo again. Opera security fix and Kestrel announcement Some news out of Opera Software today. The browser maker has released version 9.22 of its Opera web browser which is a recommended security update. It has also announced that weekly preview releases of Opera 9.5 also known as Kestrel will be out shortly. Some of the new Mac features recently added to cross-platform Kestrel include VoiceOver support, Skin improvements and several performance optimizations. McFarlane Prize Nominations Open And finally, Digital Web Magazine is reporting that nominatons for the 2007 McFarlane Prize have opened up. "This prize for excellence in Australian web design will be awarded to an Australian designer or team for a site launched or significantly upgraded between August 1 2006 and July 31 2007." Outtro ...
